Portrait of Ken Scott

Ken Scott Ken Scott’s traditional leather work and original paintings help him keep a close relationship with the past, both spirititually and physically. Scott’s versatility has helped him achieve status as one of the top craftspeople in America. His leather hunting pouches are in the hands of hundreds of colonial re-enactors and collectors and in museums. His work has been featured as movie props, used in TV documentaries and videos, and seen numerous times in magazines and on their covers. He made the hunting pouch for Davy Crockett (Billie Bob Thornton) in the movie “The Alamo” as well as provided other props. His American frontier paintings are reminiscent of early Pennsylvania German fraktur. Each painting, like his leather work, has an antique, well-loved and cared-for look about it, some even hinting at ownership by a long-forgotten person. Pencil notations and marginalia are often added to give an additional appearance of age or prior usage. Scott says he has always been drawn to things that have a history and a story behind them, things that show signs of wear or age. His goal as an artist is to create every item with a historical past with an aged look and feel to it. His work is well known and is recognized for its uniqueness, top-of-the-line quality workmanship, fidelity to period design, and attention to detail. Scott is also author of the seminar workbooks: Notes on Re-creating the Kentucky Rifle Hunting Pouch, Re-creating 18th- and 19th-Century Pennsylvania German Fraktur, and Re-creating 18th- and 19th-Century Pennsylvania German Design Elements as well as compilation editor for the book Glossary of Leather Terminology. He is presently at work on completing a workbook for seminars on nature journaling.
