Bill Jenkins graduated from Virginia Tech University, where he received both a degree and a commission in the U. S. Air Force. He served in South Vietnam as a forward air controller for the South Vietnamase Airborne Division and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, fifteen Air Medals, and the Army Commendation Medal.
He retired from United Airlines in 2001 after flying international routes in the Boeing 767. He also retired in 1993 as a colonel in the Air Force Reserves, serving as Vice Commander of the 312 Military Airlift Wing at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
He started his second career as a Windsor chair maker in 2002 when his wife asked him to make some comfortable dining room chairs, learning from Windsor expert Michael Dunbar.
