Jeri Landers is a self-taught artist who has been practicing the art of scherenschnitte, otherwise known as papercutting, for over 25 years as the basis of her artwork. As a lover of history, animals, and nature, she merges these elements in her work and believes the cutting offers a magnificent depth to a piece of art when combined with the medium of watercolor. Her subject matter journeys from early Americana to the precision of European scherenschnitte to a fanciful world of critters dressed in pantaloons and petticoats. Jeri has created scherenschnitte in sizes ranging from 1 square inch to 3 by 5 feet. Jeri is also the author/illustrator of a series of award-winning storybooks, which feature her papercutting and watercolor illustration.
A nostalgic nature inspires Jeri to re-create what is best about the past and to concentrate on that which is positive and lighthearted. Inspiration surrounds her on a historic Tennessee farm, where multiple gardens and animals dwell in perfect harmony.
