Nancy Rosier has practiced her craft of theorem painting for approximately thirty years. She is self-taught, although she has done a great deal of research on the subject. Studying antique theorems in museums throughout the country has helped her to understand the art. Reproducing the look of the antique theorems and expanding the subject matter to include more contemporary themes has kept her work constantly evolving.
One of the highlights of her art career have included over twenty years of being juried into the EAL Directory. During the Clinton administration she was asked to contribute an ornament for the Christmas White House. Colonial Williamsburg commissioned her to paint thirty-five paintings for the private spaces of the Williamsburg Lodge. The Virginia historical site also invited her to be a guest speaker and demonstrator at the 2007 symposium on “Embroidered and Painted Arts of the New Republic.”
Rosier was filmed demonstrating the process of theorem painting, which is part of the current exhibition Color and Shape: The Art of the American Theorem at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg.
