Jean Napier has been making several types of baskets over the years, but once she started making Nantucket lightship baskets, that was it.
When Napier was co-owner of an art gallery, one of the artists represented there was Martha Lawrence. While Napier displayed LAwrence's work, Lawrence taught Napier the basics of weaving baskets.
For the past seven years Napier has been retired and making baskets in her spare time. Some are traditional, and some are from new patterns. She is now represented by the Jessie Edwards Gallery at Black Island, RI.
Prices for Napier's baskets range from $220 to $400.
