A basket is a container that is woven together from natural materials. The choice of the material—which may be anything from heavy grass to reed or willow stems to thinly sliced slivers of oak—and the style of the weave itself distinguish the period tradition and area in which the prototype of a particular basket may have been made. Basket-makers often add embellishments (handles, decorative clasps) to further distinguish their products.
