The heart of Early American Life is the Editorial
Department, which is responsible for all the content of the
magazine (except the ads). In addition to our overworked staff,
we use many freelance writers and photographers to tell our stories.
We try to get the experts to discuss what they are best at. Often we
recruit professional writers to work with the experts to polish our
stories and make them more enjoyable reading. On this website, the Editorial Department helps you, as a reader,
find the stories you are looking for. You can check the tables of contents
for issues since December 2003 (when the present publisher took over).
Although we do not put the full contents of the magazine on-line (if we
did, what would be the point of publishing a magazine at all?), we are
trying to make available content from issues no longer available. You'll see
some of that material gradually appearing on this site as we sort out
the rights to the material. We encourage new writers to participate in the creation of the magazine,
and we've posted guidelines to help them create stories for us and a stylebook that
outlines the punctuation and grammar details we prefer. We also solicit your comments with a handy Letter to the Editor
form as well as a form for submitting calendar events. We'll also soon
post a form through which you can recommend homes for us to write
about. |
