Website Updates

We've been trying to make our website more usable, useful, and informative, so we've added several refinements over the last few weeks. Two that we'd like to bring to your attention are a more interactive Table of Contents and an improved Readers' Exchange.

Our Table of Contents for the current issue (click "Contents" on the menu bar at left) was originally designed to tell you a bit about the stories in our current issue—we hoped it would make you run out and buy an issue. We have now provided a direct link to our Sources page for each story (if one is available) so you can more easily navigate the website.

In addition, we've made the TOC interactive. You can leave your comments about any story simply by clicking "Make Comment" under its TOC entry. You can also read the comments others make by clicking "Read Comments" (the button will be greyed out if no one has yet commented).

We've been gradually phasing in the Readers' Exchange. We recently added the ability to post photos or other images to accompany your comments or questions. We've also added a "remember me" feature so your computer will remember who you are and automatically tell us so you don't have to type in your name for every comment if you choose to do so. To preserve your privacy this feature requires you to activate it. In addition, we've added a check to ensure that you are not a machine, an inconvenience but necessary in today's world.

Editorial comments and the Readers' Exchange, like other user-submission features of this website, are all edited for your protection and ours. All submissions are checked by one of our editors before they are posted, so you are protected against objectionable postings. The penalty is, of course, a slight delay as we review each one.

We also solicit your ideas for other features to add to our website. Just sent us a letter by clicking here.
