Rudy McKinney began his life in the 18th Century as a military re-enactor of the French & Indian War and Revolutionary War periods. Eventually, he brought his woodworking skills into the same time period. His research led him to make such items as tape looms, replicas of Thomas Jefferson’s writing desk, candle boxes, pipe boxes, gout stools, campaign chairs, candle stands, Bible (or document) boxes, clothing/hat brushes, and lucets. (A lucet is a tool used in making braids or cords believed to date back to the Viking and Medieval periods.)
Although he continues in his role as a military re-enactor at some events, he has added the role of woodwright to his repertoire. At colonial fairs he educates the public on 18th-Century life and sells his wares from a reproduction 18th-Century canvas tent, while his wife, Pat, demonstrates weaving on the tape loom and cord-making on the lucet.
