Marilyn Willmore developed a passion for fabrics, textiles, and hand-crafted items after being inspired as a child by her grandmother’s talent and patient instructions. Willmore was always encouraged to develop art from natural materials. Designing and crafting various items from wool has always intrigued her, particularly rug hooking.
In her business, called Worked in Wool, Willmore often uses the process of over-dying to create her own palette of limitless colors, which she then incorporates into custom-designed rugs, table runners, bell pulls, and Christmas stockings. Her hooked pieces reflect that same charm and warmth as the originals, and she believes pieces worked by today’s hands will become heirlooms to carry the tradition of rug hooking into the next century.
After having raised a family of four children and enjoying a career as a realtor for more than 22 years, she now devotes her full attention to this form of art. Her creations are available by custom order or through various retail markets.
