Vincent Chicone is a third-generation woodworker, growing up in a cabinet shop and developing his skills under the guidance of his father and grandfather, both finish carpenters. He creates bench-made Windsor chairs in a range of period designs with traditional colonial woodworking tools.
His shop, Chicone Cabinetmakers, is nestled in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes region, a site teeming with native hardwoods. Every one of his Windsor chairs begins with locally harvested green lumber.
Chicone studies the development of regional Windsor forms and the unique style signatures of historic cabinetmakers. He brings his personal interest in historical design, development, and process to all of his projects, whether it is handcrafting traditional Windsors, architectural millwork, custom kitchens, or fine furniture.
Chicone shares his love of Windsors and attention to historical detail during the five-day Windsor chair-making course he offers several times each year. He demonstrates traditional green woodworking techniques as students craft a sack-back Windsor chair.
