Steve Golden first developed an interest in period American furniture when he was only about 15 years old and he began making and selling miniature furniture. Later, to finance his last year of college, his interest in making furniture led him to find summer work at a small furniture company.
After graduation, Golden continued working at the same company in Greensboro, North Carolina, building traditional and contemporary furniture. He also began studying 17th-Century American and English furniture forms and construction techniques on his own. That research led him to making furniture directly from riven green wood, a technique common to that period.
After 23 years of extensive study and building traditional furniture, his works have become steeped in classical design and proportions.
