ANNE REISS

Biography      Work Samples      Hallmark

Anne Reiss knew right from the beginning she was meant to become an artist. She was born in Brussells, Belgium. As a small child she moved with her parents and four older brothers to the city of New York where she fell in love with drawing almost as soon as she could hold a pencil.

Reiss graduated from Queens College of the City of New York with a BFA and in 1986 was granted a scholarship to the New York Academy of Art. In 1990 she was awarded a Masters in Fine Arts.

In 2000 she did an about-face and decided to switch from two-dimensional to three-dimensional art. Learning to sculpt took her on a journey through mold making and porcelain doll making which ultimately led to and ended with wood carving.

Wood is a durable and surprisingly malleable medium which makes it a perfect medium for Reiss to her love for the features of a human face. Among other things she enjoys collecting antique wood carving tools for use in her own work.

Reiss lives with her husband Michael along with their toy poodle and tiger cat in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
