Portrait of David Diaman

David Diaman started wielding a hammer at a young age. Building tree houses in rural Georgia with friends and soaking up the techniques of his stepfather’s skilled hands in his woodshop only fed Diaman’s natural tendency to work with his hands.

In the past decade the hammer and nails evolved into a mallet and chisel, then saw became a dovetail saw. Diaman is mostly self-taught in the techniques of period furniture reproduction, although he credits fellow woodworkers for helping him fine tune his technique and project planning. He focuses particularly on selecting figured woods and precisely matching the pieces. Many of his customers return to purchase additional pieces.

Diaman exhibits his furniture at the Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show every March. He won the ShowOFF Showcase in the 2012 Woodworking Show in Baltimore and was a featured craftsman in e-Expeditions online magazine.

He teaches both project and technique classes at the local woodcraft store and shares his knowledge by lecturing and participating in woodworkers’ guilds in the Baltimore area and surrounding counties.
