Portrait of Pam Hults

Pamela Hults, who was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earned a degree in art education from Kutztown State College in Pennsylvania. She first displayed her folk art in 1979, and she continues to create new pieces. She has also owned and managed the retail store Maple Croft Interiors for 28 years.

She met her husband, John Hults in college, and they married in 1980. Although he pursued a career in the corporate world, he has always crafted the frames for his wife’s artwork in his Strasburg wood shop.

Her original designs blend the 18th- and 19th-Century Pennsylvania German arts of fraktur and scherenschnitte with a bit of whimsy. The artwork is a combination of scissor cutting, watercolor, and pen and ink on hand-dyed paper.

Pam Hults displays her artwork in frames that husband John hand grains and waxes. Their combined work has been chosen for the Directory of Traditional American Crafts in 2009 and again in 2019.
