The 1st Annual "Folk Art. Antiques" show on the grounds of Shirley Plantation, Charles City, VA, was received very well even though we had a bit of a cool & rainy weekend. There was indoor exhibit space and areas outside for tents. The attendees were enthusiastic & in a good mood even though it was a bit soggy. Our exhibitors list included Lynn Taylor of Kingston Pottery fashioning beautiful "blue & white" pottery, Michele Hollick of Michele's Stenciling designs canvas for the floor, Marc "MC" Daniels painting his fabulous fruit & other folk art, Kathy Daniels Folk Art painting Santa ornaments for your holiday tree, Frank & Terry Sisto of Simpler Times Antiques, Cheryl Mihill's punchneedle "painting" with silk thread, Thomas & Patricia Hooper of ASL Pewter demonstrating "Wrigglework on pewter", Roger & Sharan J. We've created this page to help keep you up to date on
what's happening with the Directory of Traditional American Crafts as well as help you judge
which shows would be best for you to attend.
Although it remains our responsibility to post Directory news, we'd like to
enlist your aid in compiling regular show reports that your peers may use to evaluate the
various venues open to you each year. We've added a page for you to file show reports, which
you can do as simply as clicking here.
This is not a place to lodge complaints but rather where
to share your evaluation as to how many people attended, what kind of mood they were in (that is,
were they buying your offerings?), and whether you'd advise participating in the show in the
future.
As freewheeling as we'd like it to be, these reports will be moderated. We
will edit them to maintain propriety, eliminate personal attacks, and just generally fix the grammar.
After all, none of us wants to look stupid in print or get sued.
To accommodate differences of opinion, we've also provided a facility for you
to reply to reports. The same rules apply to your replies. Let's try to keep things professional!
We've also made this page available as an RSS Feed. That is, you can set your system
to automatically download updates as they become available.
